In DPWH-NCR, Port Area Manila, this is where me and my batchmate Abigail Novo were assigned to.
First Weeks of OJT - DPWH-NCR

OJT-mate, Me, and Abigail Novo

Cost of Materials Used in Bangkulasi Bridge
Our first weeks in our OJT were mainly lessons, lessons that we were not able to witness like how the bored piles were constructed, how would one start after a project is awarded to a contractor, and the cost of materials and how they were tested (they referred to the samples taken in site e.g. actual pouring of concrete on piles & columns ).
To Do's after a project has been awarded to a contractor:
1. PERT/CPM - Programme Evaluation Review Technique/ Critical Path Method - time schedule of the project; useful in planning costs, scheduling of manpower, and machine time
2. Mobilize - the equipments, signages, barricades & field office
3. Order & Prefabricate Materials & START!
BORED PILES
  1. Soil Exploration
            - To know how deep the pile should be.
             - Usually, in land surfaces in the metro, hard strata
can be reached within 5m depth.

  2. Fabrication of Cages, Steel Casing
       + Reinforced Bar Cages
--Rebars held by stiffenering on the inner diameter and by stirrups/spirals on the outer diameter.

       + Steel Casing
--These are 1m dia. by 30m length on abutments A & B while on piers 1-4, 1.2m dia. by 32m length.  These should have windows located above the  water level so that when concrete is poured, the dirty concrete have their way out.

  3. Drilling Works

  4. Installation of Steel Casing(no image available) & Rebar Cage
--The Rebar cage was held by crane thru corbells, spaced at 3m.

  5. Concrete Pouring
--The one you can see that looks like a funnel, they call it fed hopper. So upon drilling, within 24 hours the installation reinforced bar cage, steel casing, and concrete pouring should be done in order have a successfully installed bored pile, else caving in occurs. Bentonite, a compound used to seal the soil.
COPING BEAMS

GIRDERS
   +Casting Bed and Concrete Pouring

+ Fabrication of girders and Concrete Pouring

  +Stressing
Why is there a need to stress the strands of the girder in the duct tube?
--We all know that concrete is very strong in compression but weak in tension. It will crack when forces act to pull it apart. So when the bridge is loaded there could be a slight deflection and elongation, which are usually enough to cause cracking. Steel bars are there but they act as "passive" reinforcements, which they do not carry any force until the concrete has deflected enough to crack. Post tensioning tendons are considered "active" reinforcements, wherein by stressing, the steel becomes as effective as reinforcement even though the concrete may not be cracked. A bridge should be designed to have minimal deflection and cracking even under full load.

a. Paint strands (collectively as tendons) for marking.
b. Place the anchor block.
c. Then now, the 200 ton cable cap.

d. Another Anchor cap is placed.
e. Now to secure the strands, grips are used.

f. Push the grips, go to pumping/stressing to its designed pressure.

EIGenTech Corp.

Department of Engineering

Work Experiences:

Site visit at Manila Water.
Some of the services rendered in this company are steel fabrication and general construction. During this time, Manila Water was required  to replace their steel plates and to renovate their digester. Manila Water, then, chose EIGentech, to handle this project.

Determining the soil properties.
Soil samples are taken from the clienteles of EIGenTech Corp., namely, Petron Corporation and Smart Communications, Inc. In the company's testing laboratory, testing requirements of design projects and projects of other clients, consultants and contractors are accommodated. Here, I experienced to know what is the kind of soil through sense of touch. Soil properties are determined by different tests like sieve test, liquid limit test and plastic limit test.

Once the soil properties are known, values are inputted to the computer for the preparation of a soil investigation report.

Determining the compressive strength of a concrete hallow block is also done in the laboratory.

Estimates of the CJCLDS Project.
We won the bidding here, that's why we got this project. The project is entitled Bonifacio 2nd Meetinghouse Project, located near Guadalupe.

My EIGenTech family. I'm grateful to have worked in this company. I'm also glad to be able to contribute something to them.
